The exterior design details are understated but clear about the important niche the S-models occupy in the Audi stable. The black brake callipers and bumpers feature the S6, 7 or 8 logo on them and the single-frame radiator grille and dual exhaust pipes as well as the aluminium look of the exterior mirrors serve to cement the S-model’s prestigious place in the Audi line-up.
The bodies of the S6 and S7 Sportback are made up of approximately one-fifth lightweight aluminium. The S8 meanwhile is completely constructed of aluminium and weighs less than 2000 kilograms. The sophisticated aerodynamics of the body coupled with the rigidity of the framework produces a car that has exceptional crash safety.
The interior design of the S-models extends the elegant and subtle features of the exterior and includes grey instrument panels with white needles. The trim throughout the cabin has an aluminium aesthetic to enhance the sports car vibe. S-tronic controls on the three-spoke multifunction steering wheels and sports seats with electric adjustment capability are also standard across all models. The S8 however boasts specially designed deluxe sport seats finished in Valcona leather.
Another standard feature across all three S-models is the Audi Connect system. Audi Connect is enabled through the MMI Navigations Plus system with Bluetooth car phone online and an innovative MMI touchpad. This allows passengers in the car to have the benefit of unhampered online connectivity and effectively turns the vehicle into a WLAN hotspot.
Other standard features with the S6 and S7 include 19-inch alloy wheels, four-corner air suspension and Xenon Plus headlights with LED tail-lights. Standard on the S8 is 20-inch alloys, adaptive air suspension, full LED headlights and double glazing on all windows.
All three S-models are now available to order in South Africa. The S6 will set you back R834 600, while the S7 Sportback is priced at R919 600 and the big daddy S8 at R1 219 500. All prices include taxes and Audi’s 5 year or 100 000km Freeway Plan.
