Revitalized Fiesta and Fiesta Magnet Entice and Excite

24 Oct 2012

The face-lifted Fiesta will be available in South Africa in 2013 with sophisticated new styling and gadgets galore.
South African motorists, it seems, will be spoiled for choice in 2013 with all the major auto makers launching new and updated models. The new 2013 Ford Fiesta Hatch features the same new ‘family face’ - which forms part of Ford’s new global design language - as the Mondeo which incorporates a distinctly aggressive-looking grille as well as the ‘laser-cut’ headlights and LED daytime running lights. The interior styling as well as the side and rear styling of the Fiesta remains much the same as that seen on the previous generation.
One of the most notable changes to the Fiesta line-up is the addition of the 1.0-litre EcoBoost petrol engine which won the International Engine of the Year award in 2012. The EcoBoost combines turbocharging with direct fuel injection and variable valve timing to deliver more power and best-in-class fuel economy.
The interior of the new Fiesta is jam-packed with gadgets and technology, including the Ford SYNC voice activated in-car connectivity system. This system enables voice-activated calling and music selection from USB or Bluetooth devices. The Fiesta will also offer the MyKey system which allows owners to programme a maximum speed and limit the volume of the sound system, and the car also boasts a NCAP 5-star safety rating – all major bonuses when you give your Fiesta to your teenager to drive. The Active City Stop feature automatically brakes the car when an imminent collision is detected at low driving speeds.
Overall, the face-lifted Fiesta does not mark a drastic diversion from the current model’s set-up and design as Ford merely wanted to jazz up the Fiesta’s image by giving it a more sophisticated look, while still maintaining the Fiesta’s inherent identity.
Exciting news for Ford fans is that Ford South Africa will be releasing a limited edition (of only 75) Fiesta Magnets in November as a last hurrah to the departing model before the new Fiesta is released in 2013. The Magnet will be an edgier, sportier version of the Fiesta, with sports suspension and a tweaked 1.6-litre Duratec petrol engine that produces 99kW of power and 160Nm of torque. Exterior styling details include the body-coloured front and rear bumpers and skirts, a black tail spoiler and 17-inch alloys.
The interior of the Magnet will feature black leather sports seats with heating functionality for the front seats as well as a leather covered steering wheel and modern silver stitching on all fabric covered surfaces. The Magnet will also have special branded mats and metal pedal caps. Standard features will also include cruise control and Bluetooth with voice-control as well as steering-wheel controls for the audio and cruise-control systems.
As with all Fiesta’s, the Magnet – and most likely the new Fiesta – will be sold with a 4 year or 120 000km warranty and 4 year or 60 000km service plan. The Magnet will set you back R229 000, only slightly more expensive than the current top of the range Fiesta at R226 000.
